continuiIT and Moonlight Systems
team for Disaster Recovery.
Enterprise-class Disaster Recovery
now available for the Small-to-Medium Enterprise
SAN MATEO, CA---July 22,
2004---Moonlight Systems, a leader in server configuration
management, today announced that continuiIT has selected
Moonlight as an integral part of their services to provide
business continuity and disaster recovery services to their
customers.
In a disaster, most companies often
have commitments (internal, external or both) to restore
operations within a relatively small period of time. As a
result, the need to restore and recover these
business-critical applications has become a major focus. To
achieve a high success rate, planning and automation is
necessary. Currently, most organizations are without proven
disaster recovery plans. Many are just at the point of
identifying hardware that could serve in a disaster scenario.
Usually those machines are purposed for other business
activities and are similar but not identical. Backup
technology can snapshot servers and applications for restore,
but does not account for: Differences in hardware
configurations that affect operating system and applications
environments. A non 1-to-1 mapping of servers between the
production and recovery environments. Consolidation of
applications onto fewer servers. While most large
corporations have developed a disaster recovery plan, the same
levels of capabilities have not been available to small to
medium enterprises (SMEs) in a cost-effective
package.
Moonlight's modeling features allow
us to capture and restore application and system
configurations quickly, said Samuel Kitange, CSO for
continuiIT. The ability to restore configurations to similar
but not identical hardware allows us to meet the SLAs of the
SMEs we service.
Moonlight's unique Universal Model
features allow customers to quickly and easily redeploy
software configurations in a disaster recovery mode.
We are pleased to have continuiIT as
a partner. said John Lambert, Moonlight Systems' CEO. The
need to quickly recover application and server configurations
in a DR scenario demonstrates the unique value a server
configuration management solution like Moonlight can bring to
any-sized organization.
Moonlight Version 5.5 Moonlight is
a repository-driven system that uses templates, models and
rules to remotely manage servers and support IT best-practices
for system management. The system can be installed in minutes,
and start managing software configurations without
reinstalling a single piece of software. With increased
deployment speeds and the capability to share models across
Moonlight installations, IT departments can manage very
complex server and application topologies with a minimum of
time and effort.
Moonlight provides tools and
infrastructure for distributed script execution, automated
software distribution and configuration management tailored to
the needs of distributed servers. Moonlight allows
administrators to avoid script writing, rlogin sessions, file
copying and editing, and other labor-intensive tasks. The
system performs very fine-grained audits of server
configurations and provides near-real-time alerts when
anomalies are detected. The audit trails are stored in a
centralized relational database for later correlation and
analysis. The system also centrally stores all the binary
files needed to restore a system to normal operation, and
performs automatic software distribution over the network in
real-time.
